Matthew Williams
Matthew’s passion for architecture and design can clearly be seen in his work. Working with a range of both natural and man made materials he explores form in its fundamentality. Strong lines and sweeping curves create a mesmerising quality. The movement is dynamic and the expression is clear. Matthew Started woodturning when he was sixteen. With in a year he had produced his own brand of wood craft. After working in London for several years as a model maker, he was offered a position in Dubai. During his time in Dubai his work was bought on to a majlis project for the crown prince of Dubai and two pieces were bought for the internal collection. In June 2008 Matthew again decided to relocate and this time he chose to move to New Zealand since then Matthew has been reestablishing him self as an artist and has pieces in several galleries in Auckland and has sold pieces to The Kauri Museum in the far north.He has pieces in collections in Dubai, UK, Canada and New Zealand.Matthew works in all sizes and is willing to undertake commissions.
In 2012 Matthew took part in an exhibition with Anneke Bester at the Lake House Takapuna. Waitakere home and garden show. Works on show at Arts in Oxford and PTO Gallery Taranaki. In 2011 Matthew took part in Wood sculpture live in Takapuna. His piece title “Equliburm” won second place. Kings collages art sale. Waitakere home and garden show. Works on show at Remeura Gallery, Art of this world and the Kaipara Sculpture Gardens. In 2010 Matthew took part in the Low Flying Cars Symposium, the Huia Infusion and had four pieces excepted by the Kaipara Sculpture Gardens. He aslo showed work at Waitakere home and garden show.
